Changes to Pennsylvania’s Life-Sustaining Business Order: Business Update Part 5
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 18, 2020, Governor Wolf and Secretary Levine ordered all non-life sustaining businesses to cease in-person operations. On April 15, Governor Wolf and Secretary Levine ordered that when a business is performing any non-remote operations it must take certain health and safety measures to protect its customers and employees. Now that the shutdown and social distancing measures are starting to ‘bend the curve’ and impact the spread of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania, Governor Wolf and Secretary Levine have amended the list of life-sustaining businesses and provided some guidance on opening up Pennsylvania businesses generally.
What We Know:
- May 1, 2020—all businesses in the construction industry in the Commonwealth, including those in new construction, renovation, and repair, as well as land subdivision and design-related field activities are permitted to begin in-person operations, so long as those businesses perform certain health and safety measures.
- May 1, 2020—golf courses, marinas, guided fishing trips, and privately owned campgrounds may reopen, so long as those businesses perform certain health and safety measures.
- Ongoing—most businesses will be able to reopen once regions throughout the state meet certain minimum COVID-19 mitigation standards.
