Lancaster Elder Law Attorney Marci Miller Presents Medicaid Seminar

GKH elder law attorney Marci Miller presented “Medicaid: Planning for Care and Avoiding Mistakes” to a full house at the GKH office on October 11. The seminar was a follow-up to an earlier seminar on long-term care planning.

Attorney Miller discussed eligibility for Medical Assistance (Medicaid), including income and asset rules, spousal impoverishment protections, gifting rules, and excluded and countable resources. She then presented a hypothetical case study of a couple with one spouse moving into skilled care, noting eight potentially costly mistakes they might make.

old-people-616718_1920When planning for care, the advice of an experienced elder law attorney can be invaluable. An elder law attorney can help you understand the options available to protect your excess resources, and offer advice specific to your unique circumstances. A consultation with an elder law attorney to evaluate your estate planning documents, particularly your power of attorney, can provide flexibility and peace of mind as you plan for care and protect your assets. The sooner you plan, the more you can save, protect and prepare.
