GKH Service Project

IMG_5182On Wednesday, September 14, a group of GKH attorneys and staff volunteered at The Wittel Farm Growing Project in Elizabethtown. The Growing Project is operated by the Lutheran Camping Corporation of Central Pennsylvania and Hunger-Free Lancaster County (HFLC). The farm provides homegrown vegetables to the county food relief system, with volunteers planting, maintaining, and harvesting a garden that has so far produced 4,692 pounds of tomatoes, sweet corn, zucchini, and peppers on 1.5 acres. All the produce was received and distributed by the Lancaster County Council of Churches Food Hub.

The GKH group harvested tomatoes and peppers by the box full, and then weeded a large field of winter squash. On what everyone hopes was the last 90-plus degree day of 2016, the group was glad to put away the hoes and gardening gloves when the pizza and watermelon arrived.

GKH is grateful for the many organizations that are working on behalf of those on the margins of our communities. Thanks to Pastor Matt Lenahan and the Lancaster Country Council of Churches for the opportunity to get our hands dirty in a good cause.
