First Amendment Seminars Offered

GKH attorneys Dwight Yoder, Justin Bollinger and Sheila O’Rourke will present two complimentary seminars on First Amendment rights, which will interest anyone who is following the 2016 election.

On Thursday, September 15, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., the seminar topic is “An Overview of the First Amendment’s Guarantee of Religious Freedom.” Attorneys Yoder, Bollinger and O’Rourke will discuss this timely topic in light of recent decisions from the United States Supreme Court regarding the Constitution’s protection of religious freedom. This seminar will explore how the Court has resolved conflicts between an individual’s religious beliefs and the mandates of public laws. It will also explore how the Court applies the First Amendment to religious and secular institutions.

The topic on Thursday, September 29, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., is “Exploring the Constitutionally Protected Right To Protest.” The right to protest is a uniquely American right that is woven into the fabric of our country.  Join us for an informative discussion about what speech and conduct is protected, what is not protected, and everything in between. This will be a lively seminar, and  with another presidential election upon us that already has seen its fair share of protests, it could not be more timely.

The GKH seminar series arose out of a desire to give back to the local community in a meaningful way. Of these upcoming seminars, managing partner Dwight Yoder says, “If these seminars on the First Amendment provide the public with a clearer understanding about our constitutional rights and freedoms,  we will have achieved that goal.”

The seminars are open to the public, and take place at the GKH main office at 2933 Lititz Pike. A light lunch is included with each seminar. Please email RSVP@gkh.com or call 717.291.1700 to register.
